WHERE DID WE GO?

101 Mt. Potosi Training Run

We had the best Beginners Run this day. We had 4 new off-roaders born today.

They all owned the hill climbs, and everything Potosi could throw at them. The convoy breezed through the run and found themselves WAY early at the endpoint. The weather was perfect and everyone, even those not truly beginners, learned something of value. Special thanks to the mids and tail!

Desert Wranglers Annual In Memoriam of Run

This run is in memoriam of all of the Jeepers and off-roaders that we have lost over the years. We have turned this into an annual event to honor those we have lost. This is a good run for those who are new to off-roading and of course anyone who wants to honor a family member or fellow off-roader. We had a special badge for this trail.

Tie Rod Canyon

What a day, especially as a new trail leader for this group. Today Kevin Acuff led a group of 11 Jeeps on a combo of Railroad Canyon and Tie Rod canyon. They definitely had some people push their limits that day. They did have some attrition a they lost one Jeep at the end of Railroad with a failing front driveshaft that they didn’t want to push, another that needed to be winched over an obstacle at the top of the playground on Tie Rod, and finished it off with another Jeep with a blown tire on literally the final wash on Tie Rod. All in all, it was a very long day. Thank you to everyone that came out to this adventurous trail!

Desert Wranglers Jeep Club has gotten off to a good start for 2024.

During January, we posted 10 events. That month, we conducted an Intro to Offroading classroom lecture for the staff & volunteers at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge (United States Dept of the Interior).

February saw 15 posted events, including a multi-day trip to the Beatty area. So far, in March, we have posted 11 events.

Two new Trail Leaders have been added: Kevin Acuff and Shane Hale. So that means we can expect even more trail runs!

Our February general club meeting included an excellent presentation by Greg Lundeen (SNORR) about recovery. He and Terry filled the room with examples of some of the gear that they routinely carry in their jeeps. One of the valuable take away bits of advice was to follow the 5-5-10 rule when using kinetic stretch straps: after attaching the line to both vehicles, back up the “tugging” vehicle around 5 feet, and then slowly accelerate to only 5mph. If that tug fails, then try it again, backing up 10 ft. But don’t accelerate any faster than 5mph. If the stuck vehicle still doesn’t budge... a kinetic strap is probably NOT going to be the solution.

Later this Spring, we will have a presentation about Stop-the-Bleed, all about dealing with traumatic wounds.

We have new Events Co-Chairs: Almarie and Jai!
